Hi there,

I am looking to spend 14 nights in Egypt but would like to divide my time between the Red Sea for diving (possibly Sharm-El-Sheikh) and also Luxor for the Egyptian ruins and Pyramids.

I believe these are quite some distance from one another so could anyone suggest the best way of doing the above in the best and cheapest possible way.

One of the best ways to holiday in Egypt is to book through an educational tour group, such as EF or ACIS. These are all inclusive tours. These tours are usually non expensive and you meet a lot of new people. They are usually also very busy. They are called walking tours, and that is what you do, walk, alot. However, I have used them both and had a wonderful time.

You can also travel free style. Educate yourself before you go. I bought a travel book from a bookstore that gave tons of information about the country, and different cities you can see, and other extras that you can do. For example, you can take a dinner boat tour on the Nile. You can also take a few days boat tour from Cairo down to Luxor/Thebes. You can also get a cheap guided tour of the pyramids in a horse and carriage. The drivers usually speak multiple languages and know the history of the pyramids in depth. Be careful though. If you do go to see the pyramids, there are several shops there that will get your attention, and your money. Not that this is wrong, just expensive. You can have your name handwritten on papyrus. You can have your own personal, one of a kind perfumes made in front of you. These are wonderful items, but something you can do without and spend that money elsewhere.

Sharm El-Sheikh is a resort town, therefore expensive. I recommend researching the amenities online and only book through a reputable site and a reputable hotel. Also make sure that when you book your hotels, some do not have A/C. The book I mentioned above will have a list of the hotels and what amenities they each offer. The book also gives a few phrases in Arabic to help you get around.

Cairo is a HUGE city and can be very confusing. The traffic is horrible, but unavoidable. It is like any other big city, only very hot. Be very careful. There is pollution and traffic is dangerous. If you are walking, stay away from the roadsides. Also be aware that just off the Nile on one side is most of the embassies. There will be men with guns guarding them. This is a good thing, but can be a little unsettling to some. There are many things to see in Cairo. Mainly the museum. It is a MUST.

Alexandria is also something you will want to see. Beautiful beaches, mosques, the bibliotech. So much to see. Alexandria is much cooler normally than Cairo as it is beach front.

Take into consideration the weather. It is very hot during the months of July/August. Luxor and the rest of upper Egypt is VERY hot during the summer months. If you are planning to travel during this time, wear light clothing, drink lots of bottled water. Eat only at a reputable place. It is easy to have stomach issues when traveling anywhere.

All of this is from personal experience. I hope you do go, you will have a wonderful visit. It is one of the most beautiful places I have been.

In Boracay, you can experience how it is to dive and you can be treated to a wonderful scenery even if the site is a beginner site. However, as you progress to learn the different skills that you need in scuba diving, you can be assured that if you want a more challenging dive site, there other places that you can go to.

Hawaii scuba diving presents an assortment of beautiful tropical fish and some of the most gorgeous coral formations all through the island chain, which makes it one of the best scuba diving locations as well. Maui or Kauai is an excellent way to take pleasure in the marine life of the islands. Operators, resorts, dive boats, and dive shops are on hand throughout Hawaii. The warm water dives amidst large green sea turtles, hundreds of brightly colored fishes, and sharks, adds to the excitement and thrill of every scuba dive.

Florida also offers thousands of dive locations that offer limitless diving adventure and packed with quality diving stores, operators, and instructors that can assist one to discover the best of Florida scuba diving.

Did two dives here, off of the Coral Cay Beach. I do not know the names of the spots as I dove with a non-english speaking fisherman (not recommended). The water was great, 85 degrees year round, but visibility was only about 100 feet, but I think this was due to the rough water (about 6 foot swells).

This diving was the best “terrain diving” I have ever done. There was not a whole lot of fish life, but the walls and reefs were incredible. The first dive was on a wall going from 60 feet to 180 feet. There were some large eagle rays and schools of grouper, but what held my attention was the sheer magnitude of the walls. They were totally covered with reef life and there were beautiful colors everywhere. There were lots of ravines and caves to explore, and although the bottom of the wall was unreachable at 180 feet, you could see it at all times, which made the wall seem enormous in perspective.
