Overlooking the Sea of Cortez and experiencing some of the best weather year-round, Cabo San Lucas is considered to be on of the top vacation destinations in Mexico. Luxury resorts, nightlife, beaches and weather all attract visitors from around the world. SCUBA diving is just another attraction that brings the more adventurous tourists to this area. With some of the richest oceans in the world, the Sea of Cortez has countless treasures for underwater explores.

With three major ocean currents converging in one area, the Sea of Cortez is blessed with abundant and healthy marine life. The plankton-rich waters provide the base of this thriving food chain which consists of more than 800 species of fish. And it’s not only quantity that you can expect to see on a trip below the surface; the Sea of Cortez is home to several species of fish seen in other parts of the world. Some of these include whale sharks, giant manta and the infamous hammerhead shark. In addition to more uncommon sea creatures, many dives in the area allow you to see various types of tropical reef fish, small sharks, sea lions, sea turtles, corals, sponges sea fans and much more.

When it comes to dive conditions, it doesn’t get much better than Cabo San Lucas. To begin with, the water temperature stays between 78 and 85 degrees all year long! Depending on the weather and location, visibility can be as much as 100 ft. For the beginning diver, there are more than ample close-shore dives spots which are located in the shallower waters. For advanced divers, ship wrecks and deep-ocean dives will challenge even the most experienced salty dogs. In face, if you’re idea of fun is looking over the edge of a 9,000 foot underwater cliff, then this is the place for you. Jacques Cousteau and the Scripps Institute have both explored and documented some of the unique phenomenon found in the area.

Whether you plan a trip around diving or simply squeeze it in one sunny afternoon, Cabo San Lucas offers fantastic diving opportunities. From half-day local dives to luxury live-aboards, there are plenty of dive professionals capable of helping you satisfy your thirst for a little underwater adventure. No matter what your budget or time restraints, there’s always enough for at least one dip below the surface.

Diving in the sea question by Ragy El-Masry: Which is better for diving, Marsa Alam or Sharm El Sheikh?
Hi Guys,

I am planning a diving trip for my friends to the Red Sea for diving, and I was wondering which is better for diving, Sharm El Sheikh or Marsa Alam? I heard a lot about Marsa Alam but never gone there.
Also the trip will be in November, so does thsi affects the choice?

Hi, I’ve been diving in Sharm in April 2006, and Marsa in September 2009. To me, there is no real difference. All depends on the spots you go to dive, there are nice spots in both places. In Sharm there is a natural reserve (Ras Mohammed), where the corals are well preserved. But in Marsa, there are much less divers and so the nature is preserved too.

When you think of Bali, or someone has mentioned Bali to you, the first thing that will come to your mind are the lovely beaches and mesmerizing islands. In Asia, it is one of the most talked about place whenever a tourist visits it.

Bali has evolved from just enjoying the sea with their lovely beaches. They have ventured in scuba diving already. Scuba diving in Bali has designed package that every tourist or divers will enjoy while doing this activity. These package range are for the novice divers to the more experienced ones.

Safari Dives

Most of the diving agencies will offer you Safari dives where you will experience the usual diving activities. Either you can swim with the other divers or you can have it at night if you want to see fewer divers with you. Divers prefer it this way as they have more time and more space to navigate around the sorrounding. Moreover, if you like to do your diving in early morning hours, you can also have these people guide you and be with you during your diving experience.

Wreck Diving

Bali also offers wreck diving where one can experience navigating around a ship that has sunk in the sea and has been there for many years. You can also find many marine life waters since this wrecked ships is also known as the man-made sanctuary of different colonies.

Drift Diving

Drift diving is becoming more popular nowadays. This is not for novice divers though. This activity is for advance or professional divers. It is where the divers do not do much swimming. What it does is that divers swim with the current. It is where the flow of the water is the one controlling the diver not the other way around which is the usual activity during traditional diving. This is dangerous because the water is pulling you away and you are uncertain where it will lead you. However, for your safety, a boat is following you on top in case the current becomes too strong. A spot where there is less marine life swimming around is the suitable for this kind of diving so if you like to see more sea life creatures, you may opt for a more kind of diving experience.

Under The Sea Photography

This is also one of the under the sea activities that is becoming so popular nowadays. In fact, it is included in the courses offered for scuba diving. Now, you will have a more clear memory of what you have experienced under the sea by taking photos of it. If you are not a photographer and you want to have some photograph of you taken while scuba diving in Bali, you can ask some to have your picture taken as well.

The pressure at 4,000 meters below sea level is about 6,000 pounds per square inch, or 400 atmospheres. It would be similar to having a large loaded pickup truck crushing you.

Scuba Diving with Children in the Red Sea

Many people with children put off the idea of taking a scuba diving vacation because they feel that it will be too challenging or dangerous for their young children. While junior divers cannot be certified until the age of 12, there are plenty of diving opportunities for young children out there if you know where to look. Just one of these scuba diving adventures can be found on the shores of the Red Sea.

On the Israeli Coast of the Red Sea, there is an exciting open sea facility made just for families with small children who wish to go scuba diving or wish to get acquainted with it. Of course, the amount of scuba diving activity that your children can take part in will depend on their age, water skills, and desire to learn.

Before you even begin planning your family scuba diving vacation to the Red Sea you should get your children used to the idea of going scuba diving. You can do this by introducing them to toys, videos, and CD Rom programs that are designed to familiarize children with scuba diving.

Another great way to get your children excited about the idea of going scuba diving in the Red Sea is to take them snorkeling. Snorkeling can also be a great training tool. By teaching your kids to perform certain underwater maneuvers such as picking up coins off of the ocean floor and weaving through hoops and other obstacles, you will teach them the basic skills of scuba diving maneuverability and you will get them used to being submerged under water for long periods of time.

Once you have covered the basics, you will need to choose a dive destination that is perfect for your family. The scuba diving location mentioned earlier on the coast of the Red Sea might be the perfect spot for your first family scuba diving vacation. The park is called Dolphin Reef and it is located in Eilat, Israel. It is an open sea facility where families can swim and dive with dolphins in their natural habitat. Dolphin Reef also offers diving courses at their advanced scuba diving center along with diving expeditions to the Sinai and Jordan.

Keep in mind that your children will probably not be able to participate in all of the scuba diving activities to be found off the shores of the Red Sea, so be sure to plan a good deal of dry-land activities as well. Remember; if you choose a destination that is family friendly, you will not have to leave your children out of all of your underwater activities and you will be laying the groundwork for future scuba diving vacations. And just think; you may even instill a love of the underwater world into your children that will stay with them for the rest of their lives if you plan a family scuba diving vacation to the Red Sea.

Diving in the sea question by Bannister of Truth: Why haven’t any bodies been recovered from the Estonia wreck for burial?
The wreck of the ferry Estonia sank in 1994, with nearly 1000 deaths. Divers using deep sea diving suits were able to get inside the wreck- HUNDREDS of bodies were seen. WHY haven’t these bodies been recovered so the family members could give their loves ones a burial??
